The toughest part about starting an online business isn’t coming up with a product.
Most online businesses start working on their product from day 1…but they forget the thing that matters the most…
Creating content that your readers will care about!
Sounds surprising I know…but the truth is…it’s the content that your readers trust you and want to buy from you…before they even find out about your product. It’s content that makes them rush to check your website…waiting to see what useful topic you’re going to talk about next.
Today I’m going to share with you a way to get free access to the content I would normally pay for… and how you can spend just a few minutes each day collecting the best information from the web.
The secret is Twitter.
I was an early adopter of Twitter in 2006. Even though I had an account, I didn’t really use it much…until about three months ago when I discovered Mail to Self.
Once you learn how to use Mail to Self in combination with Twitter, you can find great content everyday…without having to worry about what to write next.
My Twitter Feed
My Twitter feed is full of update from some of the well known and trusted marketing and tech experts from all over the world who talk about their businesses and the lessons they learned from their mistakes.
This is INCREDIBLY valuable!
Reading about these guys and how they run their business has had a huge impact on how I run My Online Business. They have shared tips and techniques that have saved me years of having to figure out problems on my own.
And you can do this too for your business whenever you have a free moment…
I’ve been blown away by the quality and depth of the content I’ve been able to find for FREE.
Let’s take a look at a few of the well known and respected entrepreneurs in the Tech startup industry and find out how you can use their Twitter feed to come with content ideas.
Let’s start with Chris Sacca’s feed (he’s on Shark Tank this season and he’s one of the most successful venture fund owners in the tech world). Notice how many useful articles he posts, or the ones he links to.
Here’s Business Insider, where I find great tech news.
And ofcourse one of my favorites…Neil Patel (a very smart marketer and owner of KISSmetrics and Crazy Egg).
Once you scroll through their Twitter feeds, pretty quickly you can find an article you like. Click on the link…and once that’s done, click on Mail to Self and it’ll be emailed directly to your inbox.
It’s that SIMPLE…
All the emails from Mail to Self gets sent directly into a dedicated folder that I have set up on my Gmail account.
My inbox is always FULL of great content I’ve aggregated from this method and we’ve used this information to get better at email marketing, and figuring out how we can grow our list.
Once you get the information, apply it and then talk about how it helped your business. You can create content around the topics that gets shared the most.
I’d love to know what hack you’ve used to find killer content for your business. Leave it in the comments, I read every single one.

Thanks for this Chris. Is this content we can add our own links to within the email to promote affiliate offers? Or should it be used more for branding and building the audience?
Ryan – I use these articles for a few things:
1. News briefs on what is going on in the industry
2. As headline ideas for emails (if you look at the folder in the example, you’ll see some of the article titles would actually make great headlines for emails)
3. Training for the different team members we have – I send a TON of customer service related articles to Shaye to give her some insight into how larger companies are doing client support the right way.
But I’d love to hear your ideas on how you think you might be able to use this method … especially if you come up with some ways to have a more direct monetization path with the content!
Awesome. Thanks for the tips, and I will definitely give you my feedback when I begin using the content I find!
